Football is a pretty simple game… Usually the team with the faster, stronger, bigger, more explosive athletes win.
The problem is that many of the football training programs out there are flawed in a few ways…
– poor programming- Most programs are never really thought through. They are just copies of what they saw in magazine or something that the coach did when “he played”. If a coach doesn’t have an explanation of WHY something is programmed thats a problem.
– too many kids not enough eyes
– not knowing the difference between conditioning, speed, and agility- This is huge because if you screw it up athletes won’t get faster!
– Not knowing the difference between maximal strength, explosive strength, the repetition method, and speed strength- Again this is crucial because when a coach doesn’t know the difference athlete will become slower and less explosive because of a thing MSF (Mass Specific Force). They will train at the wrong rep ranges and intensities and put on useless weight that doesn’t help them become more athletic and explosive.
– Not able to find and build an athletes weakness (this is what training is all about!)- Athletes need to know their weaknesses. Weaknesses have to raised in order to climb the athletic ladder. Too many programs don’t push an athlete hard enough to actually find a weakness so they never know. This makes it easy for the coach because he can give 100 football players the same cookie cutter program.
– Not enough intensity- You have to surround yourself with others on the same mission. Many athletes get held back by their so called friends and teammates.
