Conditioning for Athletes…

Conditioning or energy system development levels are important for athletes of all sports.

The first thing they need to is build a base of GPP (General Physical Preparedness). This is fundamental strength training and general overall fitness. This base should then allow any athlete to train more specific to their individual sport. We train GPP with all of our new athletes and young athletes regardless of skill levels. We will maintain these levels of GPP on the athletes even as training becomes more specific.

Generally speaking, we don’t “condition” our athletes that much just because most of the kids are playing their sport year round and coaches tend to beat them down with conditioning (even if its the wrong energy system for their sport)…

While strength and explosiveness is important to every sport, each individual sport and position will have it’s own energy system demands or require athletes to be fit aerobically or anaerobically or both…

In this video I touch on the different conditioning demands for different sports and why we don’t train specific conditioning all that much unless we have to..
