SOUTH WEST FLORIDA SPEED TRAINING
Run faster and become more athletic. Speed is the universal language in all sports. Fast athletes stand out and slow athletes don’t.
Give me 12 weeks and I guarantee I will coach you or your athlete to run faster, improve overall athleticism, and increase confidence!
Only Apply For Coaching If:
- you are an athlete that lives in SouthWest Florida.
(Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Naples)
- you are coachable and have a great attitude.
- male or female.
- 10 and older.
This training is not for:
- - overbearing hovercraft parents who are living through their children.
- - athletes that are not coachable.
- - those looking for the least expensive coaching available.
- Sports are meant to be fun. The problem is that without CONFIDENCE they become a daunting task for most
athletes… and athletes that don’t possess speed lack the confidence to compete.
- Many athletes become unsure of themselves after they get cut or don’t get the playing time they had
hoped for. I’ve seen countless athletes give up on sports after they lose confidence. I’ve also seen
many athletes regain their swagger and never look back.
- An athlete can be the star of the team and in a few years the other athletes pass them by which again
can shatter confidence.
- Certain athletes I’ve trained are good but just lack that explosive burst to make them great.
- I’ve also coached athletes that are just too weak and skinny to compete at a higher level. They get
physically pushed around.
- A small portion of athletes are very good. They are the best on their respective team and maybe even in
their league but aren’t getting scholarship offers because they lack that elusive extra gear.
- Older and more mature athletes 23 years old and up many times suffer nagging injuries for various
reasons and their confidence wanes as they begin to question their abilities. I have helped them break
that injury cycle and regain the passion for their sport!
Hi, my name is
Matt Bernardo.
I am a 17 year veteran of the
fitness and sports performance industry.
I am a lifelong competitive athlete and have a huge passion for helping other athletes reach their full potential and have fun doing it! I actually owned and operated a large athlete training facility for 16 years. During those 16 years I successfully and unsuccessfully trained a vast array of athletes.
I have coached Youth, Middle School, High School, College, pro athletes and masters athletes competing in all sports from track and field to football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, softball, and soccer. I have prepared numerous college football players for prodays and combines. Lucky for you I learned a ton… the biggest secret to running faster and becoming a more explosive athlete is learning to utilize your levers (shhh).
Commercial gyms, personal trainers, sports coaches, speed & agility schools, and strength training studios have failed so many athletes. Strength is helpful but will only take an athlete so far. Many trainers preach strength as the answer to improve speed (round peg, square hole). This works but only for a short period of time.
At one point in my career I overprescribed strength training and results diminished. What parents and athletes don’t know is that strength is easy to sell (who doesn’t want to be stronger?) and easy to administer in groups. These coaches almost always lose sight of the bigger picture by chasing lifting numbers.
Speed training is much more technical and individual. Speed schools often line the kids up and run them with little feedback and coaching. Getting tired does not equate to getting faster! After all, how could one coach individualize training for 20 athletes? Or even worse, they set the athletes back by teaching antiquated drills that don’t carry over to actually running faster.
Most athletes don’t know that doing the wrong drill is worse than doing no drills. Then I see agility ladder champions that can’t run a good 40 yard dash because coaches and parents don’t realize that agility ladders have ZERO carryover to the field, court, or track.
I am unique because I have been on both sides of the fence both as an athlete and as a coach. I was a 4 sport varsity high school athlete. I was the kid that was usually the best on my team and all conference but wasn’t getting big time attention from big colleges. I went to a D3 school where I came into my own and immediately became a starter, record holder, and all-american as a running back and track sprinter.
One off-season of the right training I went from good hs player to fastest player on my college team as a freshman. Trying to transition from college to the next level my speed and explosiveness suffered when I emphasized being bigger and stronger (typical college strength & conditioning program).
After all, it's natural when athletes are moving up in competition to feel they need even more strength and size but many times it’s unwarranted. I never stop learning.
Today, I practice what I preach as I successfully compete in masters track and field as a sprinter. I'm obsessed with seeing my athletes succeed and most of the time it starts with being able to RUN FASTER!
Become faster, more explosive, and confident!
Earn playing time, recognition, and awards!
- Learn what you do right and wrong to see what is holding you back from becoming a better athlete.
- Not all drills and exercises are created equal. Only learn drills and exercises that carry over to running faster and performing better. Stop wasting precious time!
- Get personal attention and coaching so there is no question if you are executing correctly and saving you years of useless training.
- Learn to eat like an athlete so that you recover from training and get the correct body composition to run faster and move better.
- Strength train the right way. Not all strength is equal. Only execute strength training that makes you a better athlete in YOUR sport.
- Learn to condition for your sport, not just to get tired.
Still not convinced see what other athletes and parents have to say…
If you want to help your kids to become better athletes, Matt Bernardo is the man to see. - Mike G.
In college football speed is the #1 asset. Matt has been vital in me becoming a faster, more explosive athlete. He has a different approach but there is a reason for everything that he does and he delivers results. He also truly cares about the health and well being of the athletes he coaches which is rare is the sports world. - Joey Aldo, WR Monmouth Univ

- After I receive the application we will jump on a phone call and review the application,
answer any questions, and make sure we are a good fit to work together.
- If we are a good fit we will schedule a time to meet up and assess the athlete for FREE.
- Next we will review the athletes needs and goals and lay out a few options for training.
We’ve all heard the saying time waits for no one (and neither does your competition). As an athlete each season is precious and can not be gotten back. By the time you reach high school you will only have 4 seasons left. Those that are lucky enough (the top 2%) to compete in college will have 4 more. Trust me they will fly by! Once your playing days are over they can never be gotten back and the world is full of people claiming how good they could’ve been.
If you take action now what will your future look like? If you do nothing or continue on the same path what will your future look like? Adaptations to training take some time so don’t waste anymore! You have the potential in you… Now let’s bring it out!
Click the link below, fill out the application, and let's get to work… or do nothing and hope your opponents don’t literally run past you.
