Strength Endurance, Bench Press, and Bands

2 quick take aways from the video below…

1- Strength improves the potential for endurance. The 225 lb bench press test is the standard for pro football hopefuls… We’ve been training a D-End that came in with a bench press max of 390 and 19 reps on the the 225 test. After 10 weeks we retested his max and it went up to 425 with his most recent 225 test at 27 reps. The stronger you are the easier it is handle lighter loads. It’s math… 225 is 57% of 390 but 225 is 52% of 425. You can see how improving maximal strength can potentially improve endurance. Now, this can be extrapolated out to other exercises and other sports…

2- Bands aren’t for beginners but they work really well. Bands force you to accelerate the weight faster because as you finish a lift the tension increases. Basically forcing you to outrun the weight up.. this is called CAT or Compensatory Acceleration Training. They also force you to lower the weight faster giving you a faster return. We’ve been messing around with them on max effort days and putting them on the bar for our workup sets then taking them off and setting huge records… See what I mean in the video below!
