Push-ups are great exercise and should be in everybody’s program from beginner to advanced but walk into most gyms or go to a lot of youth sports practices and you will see the ugliest push ups which is a shame because push ups are a very easy exercise to regress or progress…
You would be surprised to see how many varsity athletes come in here for a trial and can’t do 10 really good push-ups… and its because they never got in a habit of doing good reps…. meaning they get told go do 50 push ups but if you can’t physically do 50 push ups then you will do crappy reps and never get good at them.
We have benchmarks for our athletes we like to see them hit before making it harder or moving to a barbell chest press…
