I can’t say this enough….
CONSISTENCY is KEY!
Our most successful athletes are the most consistent and committed over the longest periods of time. No question.. end of story.
For example, just this morning we had an athlete in his second or third month of training just “graduate” to barbell squats. This was a huge win for him… as he came in as a “wet noodle” (basically so skinny and weak that he couldn’t stabilize and coordinate his joints.. think rounded shoulders, rounded lower back, and hips sagging on a plank). In our program we don’t just throw these athletes under a barbell and watch them flounder. We build them up with huge amounts of GPP (basic fitness training / sleds / bodyweight/ kettlebells/ abs/ etc). When the athlete is ready we progress them to harder and more intense training.
Now don’t get your panties in a bunch.. just because a kid is a wet noodle isn’t a knock on him. We actually love him and he is a JOY to train because he’s hard working, COACHABLE, and we make progress because he’s CONSISTENT!
This kid has been in every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and the occasional Saturday morning religiously. In the beginning he struggled to squat a 35 pound bell, struggled to do a push up, struggled to do 25 jumps on a 25″ box, and even threw up multiple times from dragging a sled. Fast forward a few months and he’s under a 150 lb barbell looking really solid. He even asks to do sleds…
A huge win because now his on field performance will begin to increase exponentially as we transition from fundamental type stuff to real performance training. His maximal strength and explosive strength will begin to sky rocket.
Also, his confidence is going up because he overcame some tough stuff… which is often overlooked.
Moral of the story, is that many kids and parents don’t stick to it long enough to see the benefits or they are not consistent enough to really see a transformation.
Training for our most successful athletes is just something that they always do. Just as they go to practice and school… they go and train too. They don’t think twice about it.
I could go on but you get the point.
